Mehmet Akcin is an entrepreneur, technology management expert, and network consultant based in Los Angeles, California. Today, he serves as the founder and CEO, as well as the principal consultant, at Kapany Networks, Inc.
With well over 15 years of experience, Mehmet is highly regarded as a bonafide veteran in the telecommunications industry, and his impressive professional pedigree speaks for itself.
Mehmet made his foray into the industry as a network engineer for the University of Puerto Rico Gauss Research Laboratory back in 2004. This was the beginning of a fruitful and eclectic career, where Mehmet had the opportunity to explore serval roles and work in different capacities, getting to fine-tune is in-depth knowledge of the industry and his ability to provide useful and actionable results.
Throughout the span of his diverse career, Mehmet had the opportunity to work with a wide range of customers, including many Fortune 500 companies, as well as globally recognized brands such as Yahoo, and Verizon. With the latter, Mehmet was responsible for the global network infrastructure and services teams, operating as a senior director, a position he held from 2016 to 2018. Prior to that, he had another pivotal experience with one of the world’s most iconic and profoundly influential technology companies: Microsoft. While there, Mehmet dos a director of networking planning and acquisition, which meant that he had the responsibility to work with the company’s growing global cloud infrastructure, collaborating with some of the key players in the IT world.
In addition to that, Mehmet also worked at ICANN, The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. While working for this globally recognized non-profit organization, Mehmet managed DNS operations, as well as serving as a Chief Engineer, from 2007 until later in 2013. To this day, Mehmet is deeply involved in this area, regularly attending ICANN meetings, as well as participating in a multitude of relevant industry events on a yearly basis, even as a guest speaker. Mehmet is always eager to keep up with the latest innovations and changes in such a fast-paced industry, and he is eager to keep widening his professional horizons. His contribution to the sector is particularly notable, especially in his crucial role as an internet security advocate. In fact, Mehmet participated in influential projects such as the DNSSEC Signing of the Root Zone, as well as the Anycast expansion of L-ROOT DNS Server, bringing it from one single location to well over 150 locations, making for a much more stable performance.
Mehmet is a big believer in quality customer service. From day one, he has been dedicated to providing transparency, reliability, and quality, putting his clients first. He is also highly regarded for his problem-solving skills and eager sense of innovation, which actually prompted him to come up with many innovative solutions. To this day, Mehmet has seven patents under his belt, due to his astute inventions and cutting-edge innovations in areas as diverse as content delivery networks, internet security, and domain names. Many of the patented innovations introduced by Mehmet are often found in popular applications such as Microsoft Windows Server, Windows, Azure, and various successful products from Microsoft.
Mehmet’s flagship company, Kapany, provides a wide range of services, including network and data center audits, network architecture, strategic consulting, business development, and more. The firm works with customers such as Fortune 2000, offering consulting and advisory services, as well as other tech-driven solutions, aimed at producing viable results in a cost-effective way.
In addition to being the founder, CEO, and chief consultant at Kapany Networks, Mehmet also founded Infrapedia, (Providing near real-time information and internet infrastructure tools) as well as EdgeUno (with a focus on comprehensive cloud computing and storage solutions for users on a Latin American Focus basis).
These different endeavors are highly praised and hugely successful, with an excellent track record. These companies showcase Mehmet’s painstaking entrepreneurial drive in the industry and his passion for putting together world-class teams. Mehmet was born on the 18th of October, 1981. Originally from Turkey, he has a rich international background. He is able to speak Turkish (as it is his native language), as well as being fluent in English and proficient in Spanish. Today, Mehmet is based in the United States. He is currently attending Columbia University, where he is on track to obtain his Master of Science in Technology Management. Previously, he earned his BS in Computer Science from Inter-American University of Puerto Rico-Metropolitan Campus, as well as attending Harvard University for the school’s Program on Negotiation.
In his free time, Mehmet continues to pursue his fondness for the technology world, showcasing a keen interesting in business, entrepreneurship, and all things Silicon Valley and beyond. As an international professional within the industry, he is eager to follow the evolution of the market, and not solely on a local scale, but also on a larger global scenario.
